How Does the Tour Work?
The idea for Crazy Eights came to mind on a driving trip with my wife. I was daydreaming and predictably, my thoughts were on writing, books, booksellers, and readers. How could we stimulate more public interest in our state’s writing and publishing communities, and connect them with those who sell books and those marshal the public repositories of the printed word?
Wait a minute. What if we offered to bring gangs of writers to bookstores? The number “eight” jumped out, then “Crazy Eights” and I had the bare bones of a crazy idea. The amazing thing was that whomever I asked to participate said, “Yes!” From award winning Oregon authors, to our state’s wonderful independent bookstores, and many community libraries, everyone said, “I’m in!”
HOW IT WILL WORK: From among 28 Oregon authors, groups of eight will venture out to eight bookstores in eight regions of the state in the following order: Albany, Beaverton, Corvallis, Cottage Grove, Eugene, Salem, Seaside and Stayton.
SPEED DATING WITH AUTHORS: The authors will have eight minutes each to talk about their life as a writer. Author Lauren Kessler suggested topics like: Why I write. How I get my ideas. The best and worst thing about being a writer. The romance and the reality of the writing life. What’s the new book? Fast paced and fun.
AUTHORS & READERS MIXER: After the presentations, attendees will be able to mingle, chat with the authors, buy books, and have their purchases personally signed.
MANY THANKS: The authors and booksellers have been more than generous in supporting this special tour. Each author is volunteering their time, their travel, and their passion. Special thanks go out to Bill Cameron, mystery writer and Webmaster, who developed this website for us.
